We have put together a carefully sequenced curriculum for teaching science. We have used the National Curriculum as our starting point and have then mapped out the knowledge and that will be taught in each year group ensuring that there is progression and that when learning something new, children have the appropriate prior knowledge to ensure they understand the new concept.
In each year group the children are involved in undertaking an investigation each half term. Vocabulary related to investigative science is introduced in Key Stage 1 and this is built on as they progress in their science learning.
Each Academic year we celebrate British Science Week, often with workshops led by a visiting scientist. Science activities are planned throughout the week for the children to take part in, ending the week with a celebration of science.
We have carefully mapped out the scientific vocabulary so that there is a clear expectation about what vocabulary children will know by the end of each year group.
The documents below show the progression documents we've put together for each area of science as well as our vocabulary progression.
