We focus on learning with reading at the heart of everything we do

We teach maths following the units provided by the White Rose Maths Hub. We ensure that in our maths lessons children have opportunities to develop their fluency, reasoning and problem solving and emphasise the importance of using concrete resources to help children really understand concepts.

The link below takes you to the White Rose Maths Hub website where you can download the plans for each year group. Teachers at Rosedale use these to form the underlying structure of their teaching but adapt the plans to suit the needs of the learners in their classes.

Knowledge of the multiplication tables for all children in vitally important to all them to access other aspects of maths confidently. To support their learning, each child has a login for TTRockstars and are expected to use this online regularly at home. In class, the children practise using paper-based tests and can plot their own progress with their rockstar status.

You can help by supporting the use of TTRS at home as well as taking other opportunities to learn the times tables facts to 12 x 12.

Arithmetic. During the Spring term, we are introducing a further maths session each day to support the children's arithmetic skills. Each year group will have their own focus as teacher identify the needs of the children in their class. These additional sessions will focus on number bonds, doubling and halving, simple finding fractions as well as practising the mental methods and formal written methods (where appropriate) for Addition, subtraction, multiplication and division.

Doodle Maths

Children in Key Stage 2 all have logins for the Doodle Maths programme. They access this for 10 minutes a day in school and we'd really like it if they could access it at home several times a week. They can access it on any device at

Once the children have used Doodle several times the programme gets to know their maths ability and puts together a personalised programme for them. As they get questions right, the next ones are more challenging and if they get questions wrong the next ones are less challenging. The aim is for children to stay in the 'green zone' and this gives them access to rewards and games.
