It was a special and memorable day for our school's Year 4 football team who competed at the county finals at the Dorothy Hyman Sports Complex in Barnsley today. We qualified for the county finals back in October after winning against over 50 schools from across Doncaster, which enabled us to compete at today's event against the best 8 teams from across our county.
The team, playing in their first ever county finals, representing Doncaster as champions competed against 8 other schools who were also champions for their own town or city from across our region.
The boys were superb from the very first whistle, showing true grit and determination in all their matches as well as producing some breathtaking football at times; including some stunning long range goals, fantastic team goals, some incredible brave defending and, when needed, some superb full length diving saves from our star keeper Charlie.
The boys won all their matches by a clear margin and without conceding a single goal during the whole of the tournament. Incredible! First time this has ever been achieved by a school in this event says the County FA organiser who ran the event today. The pupils not only showed star qualities on the field but also off the field as well with their excellent behaviour and attitude throughout the day in the cold, wet conditions.
It was a very memorable day for all the children who took part representing the school and Doncaster and the large group of parents and family members who came along and supported the team.
I am sure the boys will never forget this day and look forward to defending their title in 2020 and hopefully progressing into the North of England and English Schools Finals when they are in Y5/6 when the competition extends to all schools from across the country.
A proud day for us all!
